CSSC to Host Southern California Swimming?s Junior Olympics in Thousand Oaks!

Conejo Valley to Host Elite Age Group Competition at Cal Lutheran for First Time

Simi Valley, CA. – July 6, 2010 Conejo Simi Swim Club (CSSC), the Conejo Valley’s leading swim club, today announced that it will host the Southern California Swimming (SCS) Junior Olympics Competition this summer, marking the first time this prestigious swim competition has been held in the Conejo Valley.  The event will take place July 29-August 2, 2010 at Cal Lutheran University’s Samuelson Aquatics Center.

The SCS Junior Olympics Competition will showcase some of the best age group swimming talent in Southern California and the United States, with approximately 70 swim clubs from across Southern California and Nevada participating. More than 1,200 swimmers will compete for medals in a variety of events ranging from 50 meter sprints to the 1,500 meter freestyle.  The five-day meet is expected to draw a spectator crowd of more than 2,000, providing a boon to local businesses.

Conejo Simi Swim Club bid against a number of other teams in the Southern California Swimming Section to host the Junior Olympics competition and was awarded the event in June, 2009.  The Club is partnering with Cal Lutheran University, where CSSC swimmers practice daily, and the City of Thousand Oaks to ensure that the competition will be an exciting and successful one for the broader community.

"We are extremely pleased to welcome the Southern California Swimming Junior Olympics,” said Dennis C. Gillette, Mayor of Thousand Oaks.  “Youth sports foster strong character, sportsmanship, teamwork, and determination.  The City, Conejo Recreation and Park District and California Lutheran University partnered to create a world class aquatics facility, one that provides community partners, such as the Conejo Simi Swim Club, the opportunity to host major competitions in the Conejo.  With the expert leadership, planning, and organization of this swim club, I am sure this event will be a success.  Congratulations in advance to the fine athletes who will be participating."

“The SCS Junior Olympics is always a great championship swimming event, with the best in age group swimming on display,” said Gardner Howland, head coach and director of swimming for CSSC. “Our athletes are excited and ready to embrace the high level of competition we’re expecting at this championship meet.”

“Hosting the Southern California Junior Olympics competition is an honor for our club,” said Jon Irwin, president of CSSC’s Board of Directors. “Our coaching staff, parent volunteers and swimmers are all working diligently to make sure that this event is an unforgettable one for the community. We’ve been thrilled to partner with both the City of Thousand Oaks and CLU to demonstrate our community’s commitment to excellence in youth swimming and aquatics programs.”

In addition to hosting a world-class swimming event, Conejo Simi is partnering with Chevrolet to offer parents and event attendees over the age of 18 the chance to take a ride in one of four new vehicles, including Equinox and Traverse crossovers and a Camaro, as well as a featured Buick vehicle, the LaCrosse sports sedan. Chevrolet will offer rides to local restaurants for complimentary snacks on Friday, July 30 and Saturday, July 31 from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. The Chevrolet Hydrogen Fuel Cell Electric Vehicle, which uses zero gasoline and produces zero emissions other than pure water vapor, will also be on display at the event courtesy of Chevrolet.  For additional details, visit www.thefutureiselectric.com/2010/06/chevrolet-to-make-a-splash-at-the-southern-california-swimming-junior-olympics-competition/
